Calathea makoyana / peacock plant - 4" pot

🌿 Meet the Calathea Makoyana

The Calathea makoyana, better known as the Peacock Plant, has some of the most beautifully patterned foliage you'll find on a houseplant. 🦚🌿

Its oval leaves feature a gorgeous combination of light and deep green markings arranged in a feather-like pattern, creating the intricate look that inspired its Peacock Plant name. Turn the leaves over and you'll discover another beautiful detail—rich purple to burgundy coloring on the undersides.

And like other members of the prayer plant family, its foliage can naturally raise and lower throughout the day, giving the plant a little extra personality.

Starting in a 4" pot, Peacock Plant is a beautiful choice for adding pattern and tropical color to a shelf, tabletop, or growing houseplant collection.

🌿 Plant Care

Give your Peacock Plant medium to bright, indirect light. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can fade or scorch its beautiful patterned foliage.

Calathea makoyana prefers its growing medium to remain lightly and consistently moist, but never waterlogged. Water when the surface begins to dry rather than allowing the entire pot to dry completely.

Peacock Plants appreciate moderate to higher humidity, making them especially happy near a humidifier or grouped with other tropical plants.

Calatheas can also be sensitive to minerals and chemicals in tap water. If you notice persistent browning or crispy leaf edges, using filtered, distilled, or rainwater may help.

Keep your plant away from cold drafts, heating vents, and sudden temperature changes.

🦚 The Peacock Plant Pattern

One of the best things about Calathea makoyana is how different the foliage looks depending on the angle.

From above, the leaves display their intricate green feather-like pattern. From underneath, you'll see beautiful purple and burgundy tones, making the plant especially striking as its leaves move and reposition throughout the day.

📦 Shipping & Live Plant Information

Your plant will be carefully packed to help protect it during its journey to you.

Because plants are living things, the plant you receive will not be identical to the plants pictured. Natural differences in size, fullness, leaf shape, coloring, pattern, and growth are part of what makes every plant unique.

The intensity and placement of the foliage markings and underside coloring can naturally vary between individual leaves and plants.

Minor cosmetic imperfections or temporary shipping stress can occur during transit. Give your new plant time to acclimate to its new environment after arrival.
